We attended The Urban Developer's Future2034 series in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne gaining insight into up-and-coming trends and changes in a rapidly evolving urban landscape.

Brisbane and the 2032 Olympics

Anthony Ryan, CEO of BEDA, had the audience hooked on Brisbane’s growth potential fuelled by the 2032 Olympics. He highlighted the city's goal to boost brand awareness from 3% to 90%, unlocking long-term cultural and economic benefits.

Place branding can elevate Brisbane’s identity by aligning the Olympics with the city’s long-term vision. It tells a story of Brisbane’s aspirations as a steadily ambitious, warm city that's culturally infused with an easygoing nature. As one of the world’s most liveable cities, Brisbane’s climate, café culture, scenic landscapes, and architectural elegance have reached new heights of global recognition.

Precincts, amenities and flexible design

The next decade offers big opportunities in precinct development, focusing on gathering communities with strong amenities and access. Demand for mixed-use, adaptable precincts that infuse flexible design to enhance community connectivity and wellness-centred lifestyles is rising.

Technology, a new wave of development

Sydney’s urban design, architecture and construction are shifting into a new era. Emerging technologies like automation, autonomous vehicles, and 3D construction are revolutionising urban development and impacting project timelines and costs. Sydney developers are encouraged to incorporate flexibility that adapts to the new wave of development into their projects as these advancements define the future of urban spaces.

As Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne evolve, the future of place branding in these vibrant cities is brimming with potential. The journey ahead offers an exciting opportunity to refine each city’s identity and foster a deeper sense of belonging.
